Tales from El Local #3

Regresamos!!!

Siguimos adelante!

Hasta el próximo

So we’re back at it again! Up in Barcena de la Pie de Concha last Friday the mountains shook. A fucking ace night with some great people…and the paella was a welcome treat. We were due to hit the stage at midnight, but best laid plans and all that meant we were three sheets to the wind by the time we staggered up on stage at 2.30. A manic 40 minute blast hit the folk out there who damn well know how to party! We’ve got quite a few gigs coming up over the next few months as well, so you’ll have plenty of chances to catch us.

We’re heading back into the studio soon as well, armed with a cannon of ace new tunes. Not sure what’s gonna happen with them yet, but you’ll be first to know. Also have the rather splendid Fuck Knights (Dirty Water Records) visiting us at the start of November to help us celebrate the return of Action Weekend at the end of the year. The end of 2012 is gonna go off with a bang for sure.

In the meantime we’ve stuck up all the videos from our last gig in Santander and our Drive Session over on the video page. Enjoy…oh, and news of the record just keeps spreading with another review just in.
Onwards and upwards!
Till next time

Tales from El Local #2

Well what a jam-packed few weeks of treats we’ve had since those two shows back. We were back in Drive Division Studios a few weekends ago to record a live session as part of their series. We battled hard against the fuses. Six hours of them blowing, trying to snach two minutes to get a track down. We’ve come out of it with five tunes for you – three off the album, She Got Me Rising from our Cynthia Sessions EP and a great new cover. The videos will be coming out soon on their channel. In the meantime you can check out those that have already been in here.

Cynical Ride’s definitley running out front as favourite at the moment, as it get’s another spin (this time on France show Le Trafalgar), is one of the ones picked out by Ice Cream Power Pop Man in his review of the album, and is featured on GRGPNK Records latest release, We Love Trash. Well worth checking out! Put yer hands in yer pockets and buy the compilation. You’ll be helping a great community and a fine source of support and contacts for us underground dwellers.

Well, guess we’ll leave you right there. Well, after what is one of the greatest videos we’ve seen in a while.

Ta-ta…
—————————–

What a welcome back

Just landed back home after an excellent couple of welcome back shows. La Finca was a packed-to-bursting sweat box on Friday, while over the mountains in Reinosa last night we shook the cold from their bones at La Calle. The moutain has lit the sky with fire on our road back home. Soundtrack: The Vibrators.

We finally got our hands on some lovely new t-shirts for the gigs and will have them up online to buy very soon and have this minute found out that the excellent Way Past Cool have played Wanna Make You Mine on their latest podcast.

All in all, a fine weekend. Thanks to everyone who turned out.

Tales from El Local

Well, well well, we’re ready to head back into the fray after our brief respite. It’s been by no means restful and we’re coming back with a clutch of ace new tunes for you, which we’ll be debuting on the 23rd at La Finca (Santander, Rio de la Pila) before heading over the mountains to Reinosa for a gig at La Calle on the 24th. We’ve also got an upcoming session for Drive Division, the ace new venture from Loren of Idolos Del Extrarradio, who’s putting out live video sessions of some great bands. On top of that we’ll be filming our first video proper. We’ve gone for Cynical Ride, which will also be appearing on the next GaragePunk Hideout Records compilation. If you don’t know them, you should definitely head over and spend some time getting lost in the amazing podcasts they’ve got up. We’re currently seeing through this rainy Sunday moring with Bubblegum Fuzz. Glorious stuff!

Keep on keeping on folks…

First review is in!!!

Thanks to The Ringmaster for his review of our debut album. Here’s what the fine gent had to say…

“The self titled debut album from Spanish based power pop combo The Pulsebeats only has one intention, to rattles cages and tease ears with enthused and excitable bursts of pulse racing raw energy. To the term power pop, which the band use on their bio, is slightly misleading as their eager sound is more a clash of garage rock and punk with healthy veins of pop and rock. The album is unpredictable and a release with definite peaks though the consistency across its length is strong.

From Santander, The Pulsebeats began at the beginning of 2010 with the quartet of Nathan (ex- The Vipers – UK), Alex (currently in Zientotreintayuno and Riff Cadaver), Ral (ex- White Radars, The Vipers, Mairollosnauta, Corte de los Milagros…) and Luis coming together to in their own words “…write great pop tunes that you can dance and sing along to.” The album proves they succeeded though with a great rough edge to their music to be more than just pop.

The Heart Of The Rhinestone Cowboy’ opens up proceedings, jangly guitars with a southern lilt playing on the ear.The song is a stirring mix of punk and country rock giving a mix of The Pogues, Reverend Horton Heat and Dropkick Murphys. Blistered melodies and harmonies flow alongside the choppy guitars and coarse vocals to make a strong start to the release. The pop punk of ‘Song For Celia’ plays easily upon the ear next but it is with ‘Cynical Ride’ that things accelerate. From the first thirsty riff the song grabs firm attention, with a dirty insatiable sound, teasing keys and a thumping rhythm it hits the spot perfectly. The track also confirms what previous tracks suggested, there are some mean basslines at play even if production veils them beneath the guitar at times.

The dual male and female vocal led ‘Midnight Drive’, the energetic ‘Your Powerpop Boys’ with boisterous guitars and mischievous bass, plus another southern twang lined track in ‘1,000 Stars’ keep the album flowing with agreeable and pleasing sounds, the last of the three bringing urges to strap on the stirrups and go ride something. Though the tracks do not leap out as others they all bring a sing-a-long attitude, fun, and memorable moments to get feet tapping and interest deep.

The Pulsebeats keeps the best until last though, the album closing with three thrilling and impressive tracks. Firstly ‘Shallow Call’ swaggers in with shouts, a grumbling bassline and stirring punk guitars chopping across the senses. Sounding Rocket from the Crypt like, the track turns up the intensity and energy. It never gets out of control or goes full pelt but has all the elements and intentions good punk music should. ‘Wanna Make U Mine’ leaps right in next, giving a senses energising cacophony of sound from an inbred union between The Briefs and The Strokes with Living End, this is punkabilly at its best.

Killed By Sinatra’ closes out the release with equal quality and pleasure. Fuelled by rampaging pop punk focusing on direct ear blistering fun the song is again RFTC like with splatters of The Stooges and Foxboro Hot Tubs. It throbs and jumps with playfulness, and as always jangly guitars and irresistible hooks run wild. Placing strong tracks at the end of an album always seems an obvious idea though many bands do not. To leave on a track that rings and lingers around the head and thoughts has to be the best way to induce people back soon, apart from making a great album of course.  The Pulsebeats do it in triplicate, leaving the listeners with a trio of thumping hyperactive irresistible tunes. With the rest of the album being pretty darn good too they have come up with an impressive album.

The album is a treat to delve into again and again with ease so go treat yourself by checking it out, a fun time is guaranteed and it just might become a regular on your personal playlist.”

New Year Clearout

Well, as the new year is here, we thought we’d have a bit of a clearout of some of the videos and photos we’ve collected over the last year so we’ve thrown them up here. Go and enjoy and any captions for the photos are more than welcome.

This year’s gonna be a busy one. We’ll be heading back to our lair this weekend to start a-fresh on some new tunes that we’ve got kicking round and gig plans are forming. In the next few months we’ll also hopefully be heading back to Drive Division Studios to record a kickass live video. We’re thinking four songs – a couple off the record and a couple of newbies.

Keep those ears and eyes peeled and much love and luck to you all for the year ahead.

Cider Memories

Well, last weekend was a pretty darn super weekend, albeit a tad on the quiet side in Santander what with the heavens opening and dumping a whole autumn’s worth of rain on us in one night…the bastard of which was that it stopped just after we’d got soaked loading up the van after the gig. Saturday saw us brave the weather once again on our journey to Gijon to play with SuperSiders. They put on an ace show and we also went down a storm. We found though that there is a strange phenomenom of venue/bar capacity in that there city. Before the show we hunted down a snack to eat in a fairly decent sized bar that apparently only had a capacity of 15. Standing, seated, we weren’t sure. Back at the venue, behind the bar was a notice of their capacity…33! Well, in that respect it was a more than sold out show!

For those who don’t know, Asturias is famous for it’s cider and after the show we were treated to the finest Asturian cider along with mountains of chorizo cooked in, well, more cider. Beautiful stuff, but man does it repeat! From there it was on into the night (and morning). We found an excellent little bar that plays only garage, only vinyl and every tune is the tippermost toppermost. A return visit will definitley be on the cards in the future, but not before we welcome Chus SuperSider’s other project, Stanley Road, to Santander. Anyone into their classic mod-sounds should check them out. Not sure exactly when it’ll be as we’re off on paternity leave from the live scene for a few months, but will return in  the new year with a clutch of new tunes, one of which (Baby, Girl) we debuted last weekend and it was an instant hit.

Apart from that we’ll be spending the next few months sorting out getting our fab new album into all your local record shops (you can now get your hands on a vinyl copy from our shop) and getting our first promo video done. At the helm and behind the lens will be Call Me Idiot’s stickman Kike Gutierrez. You can check out some of his work here…

Well, until next time, ta-ta…

Radio 3 get hooked on The Pulsebeats

Well, well, well, it seems that the finest radio station here in Spain, Radio 3 (which is kind of like BBC6Music for those back in Blighty) have got hooked on all things Pulsebeats. In the last week or so they played us on Carne Cruda, we’ve been record of the week on Captain Demo, and finally this country’s finest garage rock n roll show, El Sótano, kicked off their show a few days ago with two slices from our new album before going on to play some of the latest releases from Folc Records and Dirty Water Records. This show is a must listen for all you garage-heads! In other news, we’ll soon be announcing our final two shows for the year. More on that soon…
